Eating Out

Eating out is such an important part of any holiday and, with so much delicious fresh produce right on our doorstep, we are lucky to have so many great eating places to choose from. If you’re a lover of great seafood, game, beef and lamb and enjoy the rugged unspoiled coastline of our area you will enjoy exploring the many excellent eateries around Melfort Village as well as the wider Oban and Argyll area.

Here in the village we have The Shower of Herring Restaurant, Bar and Takeaway offering a great range of home-cooked food, excellent wines, spirits and bears and takeaway food options!  Full details of opening times and menus are available on The Shower of Herring page.

We are also delighted to recommend the following restaurants as the best in our area:

Just along the road is Loch Melfort Hotel which offers fine dining in their 2AA Rosette restaurant & casual dining in the bistro.

The nearby Lord of the Isles restaurant is open for lunch and dinner throughout the year and serves fresh seafood, home made vegetarian dishes, steak, chicken, lamb and pork dishes as well as popular burger and salad selections.

Just a five minute walk away Melford House is perfect for a special occasion but don’t forget to pre-book and “bring your own bottle” as there is no bar.

About half an hour drive south is Kilmartin Hotel which serves great Bar Meals and the restaurant features traditional Scottish and seafood dishes.

Another good spot for dinner is The Tayvalich Inn.  They are running special offers throughout the winter months – check out their website for the latest offers.  It’s a 40 minute drive from Melfort Village.

Northwards to Oban we’d highly recommend the Waterfront Fishouse Restaurant which as well as being famed for delicious seafood offerings, also serves a great selection of non-seafood options such as steak, pork and pigeon to ensure there is something for everyone.

Also in Oban, Piazza is the home of great pizza and pasta and during winter they have a great offer running called “Beat the Clock”!  It applies to main courses only and is available between 5.30 and 7.30pm Sunday – Friday. Whatever time you enter the restaurant is the price you pay for your main course. So go in at 5.30pm pay 5.30 for your main course!

In Easdale (10 miles towards Oban)  you will find the highly recommended, award winning Puffer Bar & Restaurant.  Restricted restaurant opening times during winter months.  They are located on the tiny, car free island of Easdale, near Oban.  They serve locally sourced produce, freshly prepared and served in friendly, relaxed surroundings.”

In our many great eating places you are sure to find a range of fine wines, beers and ales to accompany your meals.  A trip to Scotland would not be complete without tasting a whisky or two! Discover your favourite by visiting one of our distilleries in Oban, Argyll and the Isles.
