Local Area

One of the beautiful things about Argyll is that there is so much of it to explore.   You can head for the forests, hills and coasts without seeing another soul or you can visit local towns whilst adopting social distancing measures.

Every business is different and not all of the local establishments are re-opening as quickly as others, within your Holiday Guide we have detailed all the local business that are operational again after lock-down.

Loch Melfort makes Kilmelford a popular haven for the yachting community visiting the islands of the Inner Hebrides and Mull and Iona.   The surrounding countryside has many miles of excellent walks with stunning views over the land and coast so it’s hard not to fall in love with this place instantly. We have an enviable reputation for wild brown trout fishing on our hill lochs and there is also sea fishing offering a great variety of species.

Some of the most popular activities include day trips to Oban; catching the ferry to The Isle of Mull & Iona; exploring the award winning Arduaine Gardens; visiting the Sea Life Sanctuary; enjoying exhilarating boat trips to the Corryvreckan Whirlpool with Jenny Wren Boat Trips; discovering wildlife boat trips spotting Whales, Dolphins, Porpoise, Sea and Golden eagle, Seals and Otters.  Not forgetting sampling whisky, dining on fresh seafood, exploring castles and discovering the Glorious Gardens of Argyll.  Closer to home there are many lovely walks from Melfort Village as well as boat trips to the islands from Melfort Pier.  Lunga Riding Stables , near Craobh Haven offer horseriding ride outs and lessons from 30 minutes to 4 hours. Trail rides are along forest tracks or along the shore with plenty of stops for photo opportunities.

The local area is packed full of  majestic landscapes, stunning seaviews, wonderful wildlife, fascinating flora, and is also rich with archaeological and historical places of interest.  The unique landscape with mountains and glens gently rolling to the sea make it perfect for all ages who enjoy exploring the outdoors.  Whatever you prefer there is something to suit all tastes, seeking high energy activity or just somewhere to relax and recharge,  we have it all here in Argyll.

For a truly spectacular birds eye view and a unique experience Fly Scenic Scotland offers 10 tour’s, exploring the unparalleled views of the Scottish Highlands and Islands.  Based at Oban Airport we can highly recommend this experience which offers trips including iconic views from the air from Castle Stalker to Ben Nevis!

Come and join us and explore a world away from your own here on the magical West Coast.
